here is the first part of the email
This is not a scientific break down of house music. It's not an historical account of the origins of house music. This is not a critique or a sales pitch. This is simply a testament to house music, for house is the kind of music that people testify about. Since before I became a convert poems have been written about house music. DJs producers, musicians vocalists have worshiped the gods of house in song, in spoken word and most of all on the dancefloor.
For me, The Crowe said is best, "deep house is good therapy."
It doesn't even matter if I'm hearing the same 4-4 beats all night long, when I go to a venue where deep house is on the menu, I must dance beyond the dance. It's as if I'm in a trance... as corny as this sounds - my feet and legs and hips and arms and neck are all moving simultaneously, perhaps even in time with the beats and rhythms of the music. I don't care whether I'm dancing alone, between two others (women preferably, but you know... it's house) or in a circle or down a Soul Train line.
To me house music is about community. It brings people together rather than tears us apart. I can't think of any house tracks I've ever heard, played, enjoyed or danced to that were ever about 'you being better than me', how much money or how much property you own, how big or rims are or whether they spin or light up. Most of it (what I groove to anyway) is about Love.. love of life, love of house music, love of dancing, love for the hands that make it and the hands that spin it, the mouths that sing it and even those of us in the audience that make the dancefloors shake, leave our imprints in the sands, and raise our hands in the air in homage to the music. I give props those who entertain us beyond the selector's choices, whether they be banging away on drums, lighting hula hoops ablaze, or seeming defying gravity.
House music is spiritual.
House music, is with me everywhere I go, and when i don't have a device plugged into my ears, or have access to other media, it's playing in my head... the incessant beats and rhythms, the flutes that come in, the sexy sounds of saxophones and piano solos that break up the monotony.
Okay, so you weren't SPECIFICALLY mentioned in this note... but if you have ANYTHING to do with house music, you're in here. Hope you enjoyed it.
Oh yeah, and pass it on.....
